A Great Grits And Cheese Casserole DIY

What’s great about this grits and cheese casserole is that it can be served as a side or an entree.  This DIY recipe is basic enough that you can change some of the ingredients to suit your taste.  Add jalepenos, bacon instead of sausage or a different cheese.  Thanks to Taste of Home for the Mardi Gras recipe.


  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage

  • 4 cups water

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup quick-cooking grits

  • 4 eggs, lightly beaten

  • 1-1/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
