DIY Corner What-Not Shelf

Spread the love

Do you have a corner where you could use a small shelf with space underneath to throw your keys, phone, and other miscellaneous items? If you tend to dump what’s in your hands or pockets when you walk through the door onto the nearest available surface, then you know how that can look messy. Why not have a little catch-all shelf and then you don’t have the problem of trying to find things when you need them.

This is the perfect answer and it’s actually an Ikea hack. It uses a wooden Ikea magazine box and you just turn it on it’s side and fasten to the wall. First you’ll want to either paint or stain it because it will show dirt more easily if left in it’s natural state, and then you need two screws and two washers to fasten it to the wall with.

Here’s all you need to do.

  1. Paint, stain or decoupage your magazine holder (or leave it plain)
  2. Pre-drill two holes for the screws and mark your wall where the screws will go, making sure they are level.
  3. Mount your box to the wall, using washers so the screw heads don’t sink too far into the wood.
  4. If you’ve got an outlet nearby, you can even charge your cell phone or ipod by snaking the cord through the hole in the front of the box.
