DIY Safe Effective Ant Killer

Spread the love

Ants are a dreaded part of summertime. Whether they are the little sugar ants that find their way to anything sweet in your home, or the big ants in the yard that will bite before you know what happened.

All ants are difficult to eradicate, and believe me, I’ve tried everything inside the house. No matter what I do, they keep coming back. I don’t use chemicals unless absolutely necessary, and so I haven’t gone that route yet. But if you have kids who get bitten when in they’re out in the yard, then you will want to get this recipe for killing ants with a safe, non-toxic recipe.

If you have fire ants, I’ve heard that pouring regular (not instant) grits onto their ant bed will kill them. I’m not sure why, but they like to eat it and it causes them to explode. That must be interesting to see.

For sugar and other ants, all you do is mix the ingredients together, soak a cotton ball in it and then place the cotton wherever the ants are. They are attracted to it and it kills them. One caution: borax is not safe for cats and dogs so be sure you don’t leave the soaked cotton where they can ingest it. One possibility is to put the cotton ball inside something they can’t get to. I’m going to try putting it inside a cat ball that has holes in it. That way the ants can get in but the cat can’t.
